Achieve the best skin possible by following a few simple steps...
There are so many skincare routines and products out there... it is a minefield! I honestly think simplicity is the best (and more likely to be followed!) way to look after your skin. You don't need the most expensive products for every stage of your routine. I do think however, that quality of ingredients in creams and serums is important. In the case of skincare, cheapest isn't always the best option.
Consistency is definitely the key to glowing skin. Like any changes in life, it requires work for it become a habit. Try to follow these 5 steps for 28 days and I really believe you will notice a difference in your skin.
1. Cleanse well
2. Use SPF
3. Exfoliate
4. Increase water
5. Eat skin-boosting foods
1. Cleanse -I feel this is the most important step for everyone. You don't necessarily need to use anything fancy. I use the Cleanse-off mitt but sometimes a face cloth is as good. Pour warm (not hot!) water out the cloth, wring it out and the use it gently on the face. This step will remove your makeup and everyday dirt.
The second cleanse, if required, using a product. So depending on your skin type, choose one which is suitable. Follow the instructions for application on the box or leaflet.
2. SPF- UVB burns the skin and UVA ages the skin. You need an SPF that protects against both and wear it EVERYDAY, even if it's dull or you are indoors at a window all day (UVA penetrates glass). It is more difficult to reverse fine lines but you most certainly can prevent them from occurring! Even in Ireland an SPF 30 or above should be used.
3. Exfoliate - this step gets rid of the dead skin cells on the surface of the skin which may make your skin appear dull. Once or twice a week use a exfoliant designed for your skin type. There are two types of exfoliant - chemical (usually acids) and physical (using abrasive solid particles). Your other skincare products will work better then too as they no longer have to get through this dead layer.
4. Increase water - everyone knows we should be drinking lots of water but did you know that our skin is the last recipient of water intake? The body uses it for our cells and organs and any surplus hydrates the skin. So I think we need at least to drink 2L per day if not more, especially if your skin feels dehydrated.
5. Skin-boosting foods - I'm talking about fish, nuts, green vegetables, no surprises here! All these foods are always included in a balanced diet to ensure our bodies are getting a broad spectrum of vitamins and minerals. Your skin will most certainly benefit from these nutrients too!
Let me know if you are up for this 28 day challenge!
